Sustainable shopping!

Did you know that our shopping habits also contribute to water waste? Seems impossible since buying clothes and consuming water couldn’t possibly be related. However, buying new clothes actually require about 7 thousand to 29 thousand liters of water to be produced! Additionally, about 8 thousand synthesis chemicals are used to turn raw materials into the clothes that we wear today, chemicals that are then disposed and thus contributes to water pollution. Here’s what you can do to help:

  • buy second hand clothing! Look to thrift shops and online resale and consignment stores
  • Prolong the life of your clothes rather than throwing them away by washing them less, airdrying them, and mending them if they break
  • Donate clothes! Instead of throwing old and unused clothes away, donate them to local charity shops or resell them through thrift stores or online resale stores
  • Don’t support fast fashion, buy good quality clothes instead. Buying good quality clothes will ensure that they last longer and lasting longer means less waste!
  • Buy from sustainable shops. Buying from small, local shops means more sustainable clothing and less pollution that comes with transporting clothes from one place to another.
