During tUrn week I was able to attend multiple events! I also presented on Friday at 1 around the topic of plastic pollution and how the Surfrider Foundation combats these issues. I included a variety of concerning statistics including:
8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our ocean daily.
One garbage truck of plastic is discarded into our oceans every minute.
Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed by ocean plastic every year.
Currently there is approximately 51 trillion microscopic pieces of plastic, weighing 269,000 tons.
