The documentary I watched was “A Life On Our Planet.” It was created by David Attenborough, as he narrates the documentary and calls it his “witness statement” for the earth and environment. He is 94 years old, and it outlines his 60-year-old career watching the environment decline. David Attenborough is an English Broadcaster and Historian. Attenborough goes chronologically through his lifetime at work, showcasing the astonishing differences between then and now, and predicting what will happen in the future.

He goes through his time as a naturalist, showing crazy statistics at each point, like the percentage of natural life that is still left and hasn’t been altered with. He talks about how humans have destroyed this world, with overpopulation and non-sustainable habits. One example of a statistic he talks about is that humans have cut down 15 million trees per year. It was shocking to see how quickly and drastically this percentage went down. So much of the Freeland in our world are now farms, where domestic animals are now. The incredible footage of nature in this movie really added to the whole message, by seeing what nature was like and how it is deteriorating was very powerful and insightful.

Not only does he talk about the past, he outlines the disasters we will face in the upcoming years, while giving guidance of what we can do/ what others have done to help. For example, the Netherlands has adopted sustainable farming practices which has made them one of the top leaders in food exports.

This documentary was very empowering, and I suggest it to all. It is on Netflix, and very accessible. David Attenborough does a great job at mediating life between humans and wildlife and tells us that if we make the right choices ruin will turn into regrowth.
