Blueland
In my previous blog post, I highlighted this sustainable company called Blueland. They have taken the initiative and made cleaning supplies that have minimal waste and are reusable. You just have to dissolve a tablet in some warm water and there you go! You can buy their reusable bottles or use old ones you have lying around (like a Windex spray bottle). I tried their foaming soap and posted about it on my Twitter: @plastic_journal.
Lush
Lush is a pretty famous company known for its sustainable practices and products. They sell handmade soaps from head to toe and have things like perfumes! Most of their solid products are sold without wrapping them in plastic, which they call “naked”. The others come in 100% recycled plastic (and if you return 5 of those pots back to the store you can get a free face mask).
Pela
Pela is a company dedicated to cleaning up the ocean. They are especially known for their phone cases but they also sell other accessories such as apple watch straps, AirPods cases, and more. Their products are made out of biodegradable plant-based material that is not going to pollute our water. They “fully compost in under 6 months” which is incredible because most of our phone cases are made out of plastic that end up hurting other animals.
Companies like the ones listed above aren’t the only thing you as an activist should rely on. It’s important to keep in mind that capitalism is a huge funder of the ongoing war with climate change and buying multiple products from these companies isn’t going to fix this problem. Be mindful of the products you buy. Just like how you may read the ingredients of a packaged food in the grocery store to be aware of what is going in your body, try to envision where this product is going to end up in your life and on the planet. Is it going to be used for years to come or will it end up in the garbage by the end of next week?
