Interview

• Interview with regular visitor: Michael and his daughter Anna

Hi can you please state your name for the Interview. My name is Michael and this is my
daughter Anna.
How long have you been visiting Deer Hollow Farm? Umm for about five years now.
What do you think is important about maintaining a site like this in our community? I think it shows umm I think it is nice to educate children about animals and organic farming. It is a place
that is nearby so the children can visit it often and a farm at a small scale.
Why do you visit the Farm when you are here at Rancho? Because our daughter loves it. She
loves to see the chickens and the cows and the pigs and the bunnies. She likes to look at and
smell the plants and she also like to go on the walks. Which she wouldn’t like if there was no
farm.
How old is your Daughter? She is 3 and a half
What does she think of the Farm? She absolutely loves it. She would go there every day if she
could. But one time a chicken got out and chased her and scared her and it was funny.
Do you think that she is learning important values by visiting the farm? I think she is too young to learn it right now. But she does enjoy it and she doesn’t know why. And I am looking forward to her learning the value of taking care of these animals and plants when she gets older.
What values do you think she walks away with? I think she will learn about organic farming
and food coming from nature, for example the eggs coming from the chickens. I think she will
learn about the cycle of life when she sees the baby animals and notices missing ones.
Does your daughter talk about the farm when she is not here? Yes she wants to go with her
grandpa a lot.
How often do you visit the Farm? At least once a month
What is your favorite thing about Deer Hollow Farm? My
favorite thing is that it is actually on the hiking trail so when your child is getting bored you get to distract them with the farm and then move on. I also like to see the joy that she gets from looking at the animals. It gives us something to talk about. I like the little information plaques because they teach her about the animals what they produce and what they are good  for.
