Visual hills for density<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/www.smashingmagazine.com\/images\/data-visualization\/us.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The graph above\u00a0uses visual hills (spikes) to emphasize the density of American population in its map. It is clear that the population density is high in the northeast are and Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>3. Heat map<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/www.smashingmagazine.com\/images\/data-visualization\/heatmap.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This visualization uses heat map to show visitors behaviors. Sectors highlighted with more &#8220;warm&#8221; color are more popular, which means visitors click them more often.
