When a claim is made, the question to be asked is &#8220;What is your point?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Example<\/em>:\u00a0<em>The Ravens will win the Super Bowl this year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Visualization<\/strong>\u00a0refers to the proof or evidence an arguer offers. \u00a0 Grounds answers the questions, &#8220;What is your proof?\u201d. It can consist of statistics or reports via physical evidence of reasoning.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example:<\/em>\u00a0<em>They have the best defense in the league.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Warrant<\/strong>\u00a0is the inferential leap that performs a &#8220;linking&#8221; function by establishing a mental connection between the grounds and the claim<\/p>\n<p><em>Example:\u00a0The team with the best defense usually wins.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Backing<\/strong>\u00a0consists of evidence to support the type of reasoning employed by the warrant.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example:<\/em><em>\u00a0The team with the best defense has won each of the last five years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Q<strong>ualifier<\/strong>\u00a0states how sure the arguer is about his\/her claim<\/p>\n<p><em>Example:<\/em><em>\u00a0The probability that the Jets will win the Super Bowl is 80 percent.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebuttal<\/strong> admits to those circumstances or situations where the argument would not hold.<\/p>\n<p><em>Example:<\/em><em>\u00a0Anything could happen.
