adcoms: admissions committee members.
bump: a post made by the thread author, intended to move the thread to the top of the forum to generate interest.
chance: to assess the odds of admission at a particular school, based on a set of statistics. These vary in nature, but generally include a grade point average, SAT/ACT, extracurricular activities, hooks, and URM status.
hook: activity or personal story which are outstanding; published research papers, service abroad, etc.
lurker: a member who is more likely to read posts and follow threads than post or start new threads.
match: a school at which the applicant is a pretty average admit.
mod: forum moderator. Can delete content and ban users.
reach: a school at which an applicant is going to be hard-pressed for admission, but not an impossibility.
safety: a school at which an applicant is nearly guaranteed admission.
stickiness: a term that describes the ability of a website to retain users.
thread: a collection of posts, order chronologically, focused on a user-submitted topic.
URM: under-represented minority. Indicates preferred status in admissions.
user flags: a tool that allows non-moderators to call a post to the attention of moderators.
virtual campus tours: video or slideshows of campus tours by current or prospective students, for prospective students. Typically done with a point-and-shoot camera. They sometimes differ vastly from the tours offered by the university.
