Me / Pinterest

You could say I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. My boards are pretty full.

I joined Pinterest over a year ago for what was supposed to be a simple, fun distraction from schoolwork because Facebook was not quite doing the job. My experience was at first overwhelming because I was not following anyone yet, so all I could do was scroll through pages and pages of pictures and seemingly at random select things I thought were pin-worthy. As I invested more time into the experience I began selecting categories and making specific searches. My first search was for music merchandise, specifically concert posters. This was my first welcome into the design world on Pinterest.

One of the initial pinners I followed because of my interest in concert posters was Joanna Hawley and her board “Art of all kinds”. As her bio reads, Joanna is a designer for Anthropologie home and a blogger for Oh Joy! and Design for Mankind, two design blogs.

After I began following Joanna, I was introduced to a “plethora of designers” who were using Pinterest for self-promoting their work and projects. I was able to pour through tons and tons of design inspiration and I myself was inspired to pursue an interest I had left in my past.

I have always been intrigued by hand lettering and printmaking. In high school I spent many of my afternoons in the art building making stencils and stamps. I enjoyed drawing patterns and writing down quotes. My mother and I began following a few Tacoma-local designers at Springtide Press. Once inspiration hit me, my high school hobby has turned into a full-blown passion. I have experimented with a few mediums, but my favorite has remained hand lettering. Someday I will hopefully have my own work up on Pinterest!
