The Global Social Benefit Fellowship is a 10 month fellowship that focuses on social entrepreneurship through action-field research. It combines a rigorous academic research and a 8 week field placement.
From June to August I worked with the social enterprise Banapads, an Ugandan based company that manufactures low-cost sanitary pads and provides jobs for local women who sell the pads. My research partner Gogo Jones and implemented a mobile application for feature phones through SMS to improve sales records and inventory management. Additionally, our main research project was conducting interviews with the sales women (also referred to as “Champions”) to measure the social impact Banapads has on their livelihoods.
