Nestled near downtown Reno, is the Truckee River, one of Reno’s most popular most frequented sites. While the river itself runs 121 miles, from the northern shore of Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake, easily the most popular section of the river is located near the heart of Reno. Centrally located in the heart of Southwest Reno, this river first gained popularity in the 1900’s when Nevada became one of the first states to legalize divorce. Divorcees flocked to Reno to finalize their divorce as well as to throw their wedding rings into the Truckee River, right near the downtown courthouse. Up until fairly recently, you could still find the remains of wedding bands buried among the rocks of the river. Since that time, the Truckee River has been an extremely popular spot for both locals and tourists to visit. Just a few blocks from downtown, the Truckee River offers recreational opportunities as well as a scenic backdrop from Reno’s nightlife. Over the years, several bars, restaurants, parks, and various other social hot spots have thrived along its banks.
