Building sustainable habits…

If you haven’t heard me talking about my research project (Emerging Technology Support for Sustainability), you haven’t met me yet!

We have two articles about our project reported lately: one is featured on SCU’s homepage (A team of computer scientists build an AI-powered app that encourages eco-friendly living), the other one was an interview by a third party organization, Waste Dive (Cities and facility operators turn to AI for recycling education revamp). Both are really cool to give a snapshot of our innovation and solution, with journalist’s professional tone.

I am reading the book “Hooked (how to build habit-forming products)” by Nir Eyal. In my line of work, we just call it, “Persuasive Technology”.

Every piece of technology we are using today, has a little bit of the “design of hooked” in it. Getting you to scrap more points, repeated log in and swipe, unlimited scrolls…

We have been working on the problem to integrate “knowing” to “doing” in the realm of sustainability. It really is NOT easy! (Think about it, if it’s easy, everyone will be doing it now?!)

We propose this idea “MyEcoPal” not only exploiting GenAI, but also deploying what works for us in the past couple decades, personalization. Because, not everyone can afford the ultimate sustainable way of living, not everyone can be sustainable at the same pace. Now, do I get you curious how we do it? 😀

You gotta stay tuned….
