- This encyclopedia gives a great description of Asadata Dafora. It goes into depth on his entire life and really paints a picture of how he lived and how he danced. We found this through PBS.
Defrantz, Thomas F. Dancing Many Drums: Excavations in African American Dance. N.p.: University of Wisconsin Press, 2001. Print. Studies in Dance History 19.
- This book goes into great detail on not only the life and accomplishments of Asadata Defora, but also many other outstanding African American dancers. We used the section on Asadata Defora for this project. It included lots of important themes such as his works and his background.
Dunning, Jennifer. “A Spotlight on African-Americans in Modern-Dance History.” The New York Times [New York] 20 June 2007: n. pag. Print. <http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/20/arts/dance/20dunn.html>
- This is a great read because in our opinion the New York Times is a credible newspaper and they do a really good job with summarizing African-Americans in Modern-Dance History just as the title states. It is a solid read that hits all the key dances as well as Asadata Dafora.
Emery, Lynne Fauley. Black Dance From 1619 to Today. 2nd, Rev. ed. New Jersey: Princeton Book Company, 1988. Print.
- Emery does a great job talking about Kykunkor which is one of Dafora’s signature pieces. She talks about Kykunkor on the stage and that it influenced many people of the stage as well. This is a definite read because you get such a great history of African American dance.

- The French website is for the Ostrich Dance and gives facts about that certain dance. It also gives a brief history of his time in Africa. Do not worry sen though it is a French website all the writing is in English.
