While writing my archival research paper on Marygrace Colby’s illustrations in\u00a0a scrapbook \u00a0she made to detail Women’s Athletics I encountered this article<\/a>. It is a mini overview of the beginning of \u00a0the Santa Clara Women’s Athletics Program which was published in Santa Clara Magazin<\/em>e in 2012.\u00a0The surprising thing was that I did not find that much else about Marygrace Colby and her role in shaping Women’s Athletics a SCU.<\/p>\n

Mary Grace spoke on \u201cLife in a Coed Men\u2019s College\u201d. Colby advanced women\u2019s athletics from \u201ctea and crumpets\u201d to serious sports with year-round seasons and national championship teams.<\/p>\n

This useless information. Why can’t I seem to find substantial information other than this article?Why\u00a0isn’t there a bio on Marygrace Colby somewhere in the SCU athletics website?<\/p>\n

It seems unfair that they don’t mention Colby when she had such an impact on our athletics program. It makes me start to wonder how much the students (and athletes in particular) know about Marygrace or if they even know\u00a0of her at all. Personally, I did not know who she was until I started digging around in the archives.<\/p>\n

I\u00a0can easily find\u00a0an entire page of bio on\u00a0Brandi Chastain<\/a>\u00a0 on the SCU athletics page so shouldn’t I be able to find a little more on \u00a0Marygrace Colby? Are the priorities of the university skewed towards present-day history or is the lack of information due to the\u00a0difficulty \u00a0of finding information in the archives?<\/p>\n
