Cooking is a passion of mine. I have worked as a line cook and prep cook at a restaurant in San Francisco called Grubs. I was also assistant to the chef for the Oracle Racing team this summer. Needless to say, I like being around food.
After spending hours on the internet, I came across this site called Reddit. It is a site wear people can just post about anything and people can comment and discuss the topic that the original comment is about. Inside of Reddit there are many different subReddits which are different categories and pages that have specific topics. Reddit has many different topics, but the one I have begun to enjoy a lot is the food culture. One in particular is FoodPorn. It allows people to go on and post pictures and recipes and discuss what worked best for them when cooking. I have been cooking meals for myself and other people for the past 5 years and nothing makes me happier than when someone enjoys the meal I prepared for them. I can cook anything from making hollandaise sauce for eggs benedict, to parmesan chicken with homemade pasta and pasta sauce which is my favorite thing to make. There is nothing better than being outside in the sun, Bar-B-Queing and drinking an ice cold beer. I have always enjoyed eating so being able to cook goes along with that. Looking at all these recipes and pictures on FoodPorn and reading about how passionate some people are about cooking makes me happy because it shows me that a lot of other people are as passionate about the art of cooking like I am. This particular internet culture has a little of eighty eight thousand members that are subscribed to it. There are other sites on Reddit like AskCulinary which allows you to ask questions and have them answered by professionals that certified as professional food handlers by the website. This is a great resource that I am truly upset that I didn’t know about sooner.
On this site you will come across:
- This page: An introduction to the cyberculture that I will be analyzing.
- Food Cultures of the Internet: Which is where I explain why and how the internet is so important to the food culture.
- A Chef’s Community: Where I talk about the people of these food cybercultures and try to determine what type of people they are.
- What is Internet Culture: Where i use examples from professors to define Internet Culture and then i come up with my own definition of the term.
- Food Lingo: I go over the definitions of terms used in this culture and explain them more in depth
Here’s a short video of a recipe that I tried and turned out great for me. I just made on a much smaller scale. These guys are amateur chefs that became YouTube sensations and now come out with weekly videos of different recipes they try, most of them involving a lot of bacon.
