The Deadly Party Drug Cocktail

Students taking Adderall, Source: Telegraph

In today’s society, Adderall is one of the most abused medical prescriptions in the United States today. According to the Dr. Ricker of the Huffington Post, there are an estimated of 20-30 percent of college students who abuse Adderall in a regular basis. Adderall has become the “wonder drug” amongst college students today, and my own experiences being a student at Santa Clara University has given me first-hand experience to this uprising issue of Adderall abuse. Students are  using, and abusing it in the wrong ways. They are also not worrying about the consequences and side effects, that this dangerous cocktail entails.

One main reason WHY students mix Adderall with Alcohol is because it is often referred as the “safer” cocaine drug. All it takes is a quick pop of Adderall, and start drinking alcohol,  and you will have the time of your life, so you think? Forget the energy drinks, the new party drug cocktail is Adderall + Alcohol.  The majority of times students will drink enormous amounts of alcohol then will take Adderall. But what students do not understand is how dangerous these two mixtures can be. Students mix the two, because they know it will give them an immense amount of energy while eliminating the drunk side effects, and will also allow an individual to drink twice the amount of alcohol they would not being able to without the pill. What does this mean? Students are starting to binge drink, while taking the pill, and this is leading to even more serious health consequences among college students today. But how are students receiving these drugs, and is it really that easy to be prescribed Adderall or received these drugs from other students? My method of intervention is to bring awareness about the dangers, and accessibility of this deadly party drug cocktail known as Adderall and alcohol, and pose the dangers and awareness to the abusers.  I feel like it is necessary to advocate for change, and  bring awareness to doctors to have  higher requirements and require a some type of therapy for young adults when being prescribed the drug.

Each of these topics will be broken up into different sections on this website: The Deadly Party Drug Cocktail, Ingredients (explaining what the drug is, and what condition it is supposed to treat) THE PARTY CRAZE (why its so popular), DANGERS, Advocating for Change, Annotated Bibliography, and Review Literature.

Here is my PSA I created in regards of the deadly party drug cocktail, Adderall + Alcohol. I hope this brings awareness, and creates a social impact amongst society or even an individual.
