Introduction

The internet has revolutionized the way people ask questions and find answers to their concerns. In this technological era and enjoying the right to freedom of speech online, internet users have been able to form groups online with other users of similar interests and concerns. Due to this linkage and formation of groups, online support groups began to develop and each categorize themselves depending on a certain topic they have in common. Many online support groups range from sleep deprivation to acne to break ups. There are wide varieties of topics that are narrowed down for internet users to find their best match and to top it off, the majority of support groups online are free to subscribe to so it encourages many online users to join.

DailyStrength.com is what I like to call the yellow book for online support groups. This website consists of over 500 online communities in which the users are “people facing similar life challenges, medical conditions, and mental health issues” and are able to connect by joining either community or communities. I decided to choose Daily Strength as my object of study because it is probably the biggest online support group community filled site. In this cultural hypertext, I will analyze how an internet culture is developed in DailyStrength.com.
