Excuse my brevity but we are all busy. This is one of those right moves, at the right place, at the right time.
The proposal is extremely well thought out and documented. Given the positive enrollment data, it will be good to make this commitment now, see where the market takes us and and be better informed as we conduct University capacity studies, enrollment/budget projections and design work for a new engineering building that we hope is in our future.
Thank you for this exciting development.

As may be evident from the overly generous gratitude in the introduction, I am fully supportive of the proposal to create a Department of Bioengineering and an M.S. in Bioengineering. The convergence of synthetic biology, imaging, and stem cell technologies promises significant benefits in healthcare, sustainable energy, and agricultural productivity. These benefits may accrue to both the developed and developing world, helping fulfill our mission of social justice and creating new market opportunities. The implementation of of bioengineering-related technologies, however, requires applied ethics, since most have both potentially beneficial and harmful utilities. Santa Clara University is hence an ideal institution to implement an integrated Bioengineering department supported by the work of our Centers of Distinction.
